The church is little changed since Flora last saw it. As
visitors enter, they see directly in front of them the brass plate recording
the names of eleven local men who died in the First World War - a stark reminder
of the dreadful toll of those years from a Parish of only 150 souls. And, at
the foot of the two columns, the name of Flora’s beloved brother Edwin Timms (Edmund) exactly as Flora recorded it in that
poignant final paragraph of Lark Rise.
