Juniper Hill, on Sunday July 6th 2008 at 2:30pm.
A Flower Festival will take place in the church at
Cottisford during the weekend of September 13th and 14th
2008, in aid of Church funds and the charity The Friends of Cottisford Church.
If you are planning to visit Juniper Hill (Lark Rise) and
Cottisford (Fordlow) we should be pleased to arrange for a local Flora Thompson
enthusiast to give you a guided tour, pointing out many of the places that she
mentioned in her books. Although farming methods have been dramatically mechanised
since the times she described, the area remains a quiet, largely arable,
backwater of rural Oxfordshire. The unique layout of Juniper Hill and the
adjacent allotments remains virtually unchanged since the original Enclosure
Award of 1854, and many of the local features she mentioned can still be
identified.
We are happy to provide this service voluntarily, but please give us plenty of notice and also let us know (A) how many of you there will be and (B) how long you wish to take over the tour. On average the tour takes about 2 hours, and an exhibition of local photographs and maps can be arranged if you wish.
We suggest that your tour starts at Juniper Hill, which is
easily reached from the A43, and concludes in Cottisford. Detailed arrangements
can be adapted to suit your numbers and the time you have available.
We hope you enjoy your visit here. You can contact us via
